WELCOME TO CANADIAN BUREAU FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF MUSIC

Home: Welcome

MUSICAL EXCELLENCE BEGINS HERE

For nearly a century, The Canadian Bureau for the Advancement of Music (CBAM) has brought excellent affordable group piano instruction to elementary schools across Canada. With a unique teaching format and highly trained, passionate teachers, CBAM believes that our instruction can provide a rich addition to the development of young, creative minds.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to bring an excellent piano program to students at an accessible price. Every parent knows that the early years of a child’s life are crucial for development, and piano lessons help children improve IQ, abstract reasoning skills, memory, motor skills, and better overall learning. Our lessons furthermore assist in encouraging children to build important connections with fellow students.

The Canadian Bureau for the Advancement of Music (CBAM) examinations are structured in accordance with our eight levels of Practical and Theory Requirements it prepares our students to participate in the Royal Conservatory of Music examinations.

A RICH HISTORY

100 Years of Music Development

DSCN4848_B.jpg

It all began a century ago. In 1917, after returning from WWI, two Canadian veterans, General Sir Arthur Currie GC and Sir Henry Beatty KC, returned to Canada to bring a dream to life. Sir Curry and Beatty worked tirelessly to bring accessible music instruction into schools, launching group piano and band classes in schoolrooms across Canada. Through the years, CBAM changed and grew with the times -- from offering violin lessons for twenty-five cents a lesson in 1929, to incorporating and registering as a charity in 1972. Throughout it all, CBAM, a proud nonprofit, has brought accessible music education to young minds across Canada in a unique format, increasing student engagement in music and encouraging discipline that lasts a lifetime.

“Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul.”  – Plato

“Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children’s education.”  – Yo-Yo Ma
